Terms + Policy

The short version: your project files belong to you, snapshots live on your Mac, nothing is uploaded unless you choose to share, and we'd never train AI on your music.

Introduction

Welcome to Snapshot. It's a small indie project built by Felix Schaper in Berlin to keep your Ableton work safe. These terms describe what you can expect from the product, and what we expect from you when you use it.

In this document, Snapshot, we, and us refer to Felix Schaper, trading as Snapshot, based in Berlin, Germany. You refers to the person installing the app, creating an account, or paying for a subscription.

By installing the desktop app, creating an account, or paying for a subscription, you agree to everything written here. If you don't agree with any part of these terms, please don't use the service. If something is unclear, email felix.w.schaper@gmail.com and we'll explain or fix it.

These terms apply alongside any consumer protection laws in your country, which may give you additional rights that override anything written here.

02

Using the service

You're welcome to use Snapshot for any lawful purpose. To use it, we ask that you:

  • Are at least 16 years old, or have permission from a parent or guardian if you're younger.
  • Keep your account credentials private and don't share them with anyone else.
  • Only snapshot and share project files that you have the right to use and distribute.
  • Don't redistribute commercial samples, third-party plugins, or other content you don't have the right to share.
  • Don't attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, automate, or overload the service.
  • Don't introduce malware, viruses, or anything else harmful through shared snapshots.

You can install and use Snapshot on any number of your own personal Macs with a single subscription. Sharing your account or paid access with other people is not allowed.

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Snapshot for as long as you have an active subscription or free trial. The license ends when your subscription ends. The Snapshot desktop app, web app, brand, source code, and design remain our intellectual property.

The music projects you create stay yours. Your .als files, samples, audio, lyrics, and everything else you make with Snapshot belong to you. We claim no ownership over your creative work.

03

Privacy + data

Snapshot is local-first. All snapshots, parsed project data, captured samples, and audio previews live in a folder on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded to the cloud unless you explicitly press Share.

When you do share a snapshot, the bundle for that one version (the .als file, captured samples, plugin manifest, and an optional bounced preview) is uploaded to Cloudflare R2 storage in Europe. You can revoke any link at any time from inside the app. The bundle is then deleted from R2 within minutes, and we don't keep a copy after that.

Email addresses you give us are used only to contact you about Snapshot, such as billing, important product updates, and replies to your messages. We do not sell or share your email with third parties, and we do not use it to market other products to you.

We do not train AI on your project data, audio, samples, or anything else you create with Snapshot.

Under European data protection law (GDPR), you have the right to ask for a copy of any personal data we hold about you, to ask us to correct it, and to ask us to delete it. Email felix.w.schaper@gmail.com with the request and we'll respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

04

Subscriptions + billing

Snapshot is €3 per month, with a 7-day free trial up front. No credit card is required during the trial. Yearly billing is available at a 20% discount.

When the trial ends and you've added a payment method, billing begins at the current price. You can cancel any time from your account dashboard. Cancellations take effect at the end of the current billing period, and you keep full access until then.

If something doesn't work or you're unhappy, email me within 30 days of any charge and I'll refund it, no questions asked.

If you cancel or stop paying, every snapshot stored on your Mac stays yours forever. Active share links stop being served at the end of the billing period, but the local data on your computer is untouched.

Prices may change in the future. We'll give you at least 30 days' notice by email before any price change, and you can cancel before the new price takes effect if you don't agree with it.

All prices are in euros and include VAT where applicable.

05

Acceptable use

You're responsible for the projects you create and the snapshots you share. Don't use Snapshot to share work that isn't yours, redistribute commercial samples or plugins outside their license terms, or share material that's illegal in your jurisdiction or the recipient's.

Examples of things that are not allowed:

  • Sharing copyrighted music, stems, or samples you don't have the right to distribute.
  • Using Snapshot to harass, threaten, or stalk other people.
  • Sharing content that is illegal, that incites violence, that promotes hate against a protected group, or that sexually exploits minors.
  • Using the service in a way that interferes with other users or the infrastructure (for example, trying to flood it with traffic).

If we believe an account is being misused, we may suspend access while we investigate. We'll always try to reach you first by email and give you a chance to explain before we take action.

Either of us can end the relationship at any time. You can stop using Snapshot whenever you want by cancelling your subscription and uninstalling the app. We can suspend or terminate your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, with a reasonable explanation by email.

06

Disclaimers + liability

Snapshot is provided "as is" and "as available." We work hard to keep the service running, accurate, and secure, but we can't guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for any particular purpose.

You're responsible for keeping your own backups of project files that matter to you. While Snapshot is designed to protect your work, it isn't a substitute for independent backups (Time Machine, cloud storage, an external drive).

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability for any claim related to the service is limited to the total amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including lost profits, lost data, or business interruption.

Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived under applicable law. These terms are governed by German law, and any disputes that can't be resolved by email will be handled by the courts of Berlin, Germany. If you're a consumer based elsewhere in the EU, you can also bring a claim in the courts of your home country.

07

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms occasionally as the product evolves. When we do, we'll bump the "last updated" date at the top of this page.

If a change is material (for example, it affects how we handle your data or how billing works), we'll email account holders at least 30 days before the change takes effect. If you don't agree with a change, you can cancel your subscription before it kicks in. Continuing to use Snapshot after a change means you accept the new terms.
